A Rewarding Experience for Master’s Graduate
Master’s candidate, Ms Vidata Surujpal, says studying at UKZN is not only a lifelong achievement, it also secured her a foundation to obtaining her PhD.
Surujpal graduated with her Master of Commerce in Marketing during UKZN’s Autumn Graduation ceremonies.
‘Obtaining my masters served as a foundation in guiding me into the right direction to achieve my goal. Additionally, I have this philosophy that your husband or partner can wake up and one day leave you, however, your education is something that is extremely valuable. No one can take it away from you,’ she said.
For Surujpal, the positive experience of her master’s studies has contributed heavily to her decision to pursue a PhD with her university of choice. Choice. ‘Firstly, this was my first time studying at UKZN, the online support writing workshops were extremely beneficial in assisting me to write for the level nine qualification. Secondly, my supervisor has been a pillar of strength and encouragement.’
Dr Devina Oodith supervised Surujpal’s study titled: Exploring the Efficacy of Digital Marketing to Promote Higher Education Using Social Media Platforms.’ The study examined different results and levels of success obtained through advertising campaigns developed to promote and create awareness and engagement in Higher Learning Institutions.
As a Student Support Co-ordinator for Stadio, Surujpal believes that obtaining a master’s qualification gives one a competitive edge for employment --- especially for someone who plans on working abroad. ‘I will be relocating for a year or two to work in Saudi Arabia to teach. The knowledge and skills gained from this qualification makes one more marketable in the world of work. My core subject is English and with these skills and knowledge, I will be fully equipped to give of my best.’
To celebrate and reward herself for her hard work, Surujpal took a vacation outside the country. ‘I love travelling. After finding out that I had achieved my master’s in 2022, I decided to book a Europe Contiki trip. During this trip, I travelled to six different countries. I therefore ticked off one of my goals on my bucket list. Being able to achieve this really made me so happy!’
